CCTV A necessary evil so that we can open the Church building
I sometimes get two different complaints, and always from different people. The first one is that the Church is not always open for private prayers and devotion. The second one is that "we are becoming a society with spy cameras." These days, when Churches are becoming seen as easy soft targets for theft and vandalism I'm afraid we can't have one without the other.
In the last few months the CCTV has provided evidence resulting in the arrest of the person who broke our windows at New Year, has also provided a view of an attempted house burglary here at 03.00 that is now in police possession, and has alerted office staff to a possible child protection issue in the main body of the Church building (this was dealt with quickly and was a false alarm, but you can see the need to be on the ball here). We are able to keep the building open much more than we would if we did not have the system in place. So, although I share people's distaste for the need for cameras I hope you will understand that they are in place in order to protect your right to pray in the church,
